2025 Tractor Safety Instruction

Classroom sessions  8:00 am - 4:00 pm each day
Written Exam  - June 12
Driving Exam - June 13 (scheduled times)

Youth are required to attend ALL of the classes, complete homework, pass a written exam and a tractor-driving test to receive certification.

Cost:  $30.00 per student
           Bring payment to first day of class.  Certificates will not be issued until payment is received.

Registration deadline: June 2, 2025
          Open to youth ages 12-15, priority will be given to Buffalo County youth.

Parent Orientation:
          Parents are asked to attend the first 30 minutes of class on June 9th for overall class information and signing of youth activity waiver.  Waiver must be signed prior to driving exam.

Alma Area Schools is hosting a Tractor and Machinery Safety course for youth ages 12-15.  The minimum age requirement for this class, as set in WI Act 178 effective May 1998, is 12 years old (12 and 13 year old youth can only drive on their parents farm).  However, the course and literature are geared towards youth 14 -15 years old.  Certification will not be valid until the youth turns 14.    

The State of Wisconsin requires any youth under the age of 16 that is driving farming implements on roads be certified and participate in a Wisconsin Safe Operation of Tractor and Machinery Certification Program. See Wisconsin Act 455.

This class is not intended to make youth expert tractor/machinery operators.  It will teach youth the basics of tractor and machinery operation and safety.
