Hasina Juma Talk - March 14, 2019 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
As a society we are only now acknowledging the existence and beginning to accept the LGBTQ2 community. There’s a myth that everyone in the LGBTQ2+ community is moving at the same pace. This is a false reality. People of colour who identify as LGBTQ2+ are one group that have a more complex experience as they are accepted in Canadian society, but not in their religious and ethnic community. Hasina Juma knows this struggle all too well as a Canadian born individual who identifies as a bisexual and grew up in Sherwood Park as an Ismaili Muslim with family roots in Africa/South Asia. Bisexuals like Hasina also have an additional layer of complexity as they are still fighting for credibility within the LGBTQ2+ community.

Join us as we hear about Hasina Juma’s inspirational journey from hiding her bisexuality for a decade to finding where she belonged in the world to speaking up against a ‘taboo’ topic while becoming a recognized expert and thought leader.
