Part of what makes our farmers’ markets so special is the great local musical talent we’re able to provide for the enjoyment of customers and vendors alike. Live music at our farmers’ markets contributes to a fun, festive atmosphere and benefits local businesses as well. Please complete the following form by February 15th, 2018 to be considered for a slot in the 2018 Arcata Plaza farmers’ market lineup.
We aim to provide a diversity of musical genres for our markets to appeal to a wide range of interests. The Arcata Plaza music submission committee meets in the end of February each year to review music submissions, rank them according to preference, and make selections for the upcoming season. To be selected for a slot at the Arcata Plaza markets, bands must consider the following guidelines:
Bands must have at least 3 members to qualify for consideration at the Arcata Plaza markets. Smaller bands are welcome to apply to play at our weekday markets in Eureka, Fortuna, McKinleyville and Willow Creek, just contact the managers for details.
Music submissions must be family-friendly and appropriate for a wide audience. The music selection committee typically chooses high energy bands with upbeat music, as this has been shown to support sales at the market.Preference is given to local musicians, but in some cases bands from out of the area have been selected and scheduled to perform.
Bands selected for Arcata Plaza markets are expected to play for 3 hours, from 10:30am to 1:30pm, with appropriate breaks - generally 3 sets of 45-50 minutes each. Please be prepared to arrive by 9:30 AM to set up.
No explicitly political messaging or profanity is allowed. Band related merch sales and tips are allowed. We provide a sound engineer and equipment, and require that volume levels not exceed 95 decibels.
Farmers’ markets take place rain or shine. We encourage bands to play regardless of the weather! A 10x15 foot canopy is provided with additional canopies available upon request. In the event that weather conditions pose a significant risk to instruments and equipment, we will consult with our sound engineer and scheduled musicians to decide whether to cancel the performance. In case of cancellation, we will attempt to reschedule a date if possible.
If your band has been selected to perform, you will be contacted to schedule a date. Bands are scheduled in order of their ranking by the music selection committee. Once a date has been confirmed, you will be mailed a contract with additional information regarding your performance.
If you have any questions, please contact us! Thank you again for providing quality music for our communities!
