The aim of the GGCA Seed Grants - Innovation Awards is to promote the implementation of initiatives that are women-led, innovative, and address gender-responsive climate change solutions. The launch of the Seed Grants - Innovation Awards will be parallel to the GGCA Forum during COP22 and will be featured at an awards ceremony and reception on the second day of the forum. This is part of the overall GGCA initiative to showcase gender-responsive climate action and solutions to partners, decision-makers, advocates, donors, and media.
Four SEED Grants of $4,000 USD will be awarded to the four organizations that submit programs, projects, and activities that demonstrate the potential for transformational change, long-term impact, and meet the criteria outlined below.
The winning organizations will be able to use $2,000 USD of the $4,000 USD grant for travel support (economy-class airfare and shared accommodation) for a representative to participate and present the winning initiative at the GGCA Forum in Marrakech, Morocco from November 11-14th. The remaining $2,000 USD of the $4,000 USD grant can be used by the winning organization to expand or implement their innovative work.
Applicants must be part of the GGCA Membership. If selected as a GGCA SEED Grants - Innovation Awards recipient, one representative from the implementing organization must be available to participate and present at the GGCA Forum in Marrakech, Morocco on November 12th and 13th. Application forms are in English and must be completed and submitted in English. All submissions will be reviewed by the GGCA Secretariat. The GGCA Secretariat will shortlist submissions and the GGCA Steering Committee will review the shortlist and select the four winners.
Please note that in order to qualify for the GGCA SEED Grants - Innovation Awards, initiatives and implementing organizations must meet the following criteria.
PROPOSED INITIATIVES MUST:
- Be innovative gender-responsive climate change initiatives that are scaleable and/or replicable - Be in the process of implementation or ready to be implemented - Deliver verifiable social and climate change mitigation and/or adaptation benefits - Ignite or catalyze long-term impact and transformational change - Go beyond business-as-usual, vulnerability-reduction, and resilience-building - Focus on localized climate change solutions and support or collaborate with frontline communities - Promote women’s leadership and participation, at least half of the ‘beneficiaries’ or executors of the activity must be women and girls- $4,000 USD SEED grant will make a difference in how the initiative can be implemented or scaled
IMPLEMENTING ORGANIZATIONS MUST:
- Be part of the GGCA Membership and represent civil society - Incorporate the interlinkages between gender and climate change throughout all of its work - Have experience coordinating long-term, innovative, gender-responsive initiatives - Promote women’s leadership and participation - Currently work at the local level with frontline communities
