DESI Membership Form 2017

Membership in the DESI Collaboration is subject to periodic review to assure that collaboration members are contributing to the common needs of the Collaboration and/or Project. This requirement applies to all individuals in the Collaboration, both the Participants themselves and the junior members that they are sponsoring; we ask that people fill out this form before gaining access to the wiki. New members can make a guess at their planned activities.

This form will also provide information to the DESI Membership Committee with information about your plans for the coming two-year period.

Please use the SAME email address that you used to sign up for the DESI trak wiki. We ask that you use your institutional address.

The DESI membership committee tracks effort commitment by the fraction of research time. Please note that the phrase ``Project and Collaboration tasks'' is intended to encompass all efforts toward the DESI common good, excluding direct effort toward one's own science analyses. Examples of common-good effort include: being a convener of a WG or sub-group; construction and documentation of catalogs that support a WG goal; reporting of quality assurance investigations on survey data; contribution to survey hardware, pipelines, target selection, survey simulations, imaging data sets; aid to documentation, public or collaboration web presence, or other forms of public outreach; contributions to data release papers or technical papers; effort toward collaboration management, governance, committees, or the organization of collaboration meetings. Basically, any activity that helps DESI to be a successful scientific collaboration, save for a narrow servicing of one's own science analysis, is suitable. Time involved in supervising junior members on suitable tasks also counts. Note that total fraction of your time you spend on DESI should be Total DESI effort / Total research effort.
