Welcome! June 27, 2021 Earth Video Conference Youth Climate Training — Registration — Volunteer
We are happy to be having another YAE training via video conference.
*** Please complete this form and submit as soon as possible. Registration will close when full, and definitely register before Friday, June 18, 2021. We may be sending out art supplies for a project that is part of the training, and anyone who does not register by June 18th may not be able to receive these, so please register early! Registering early helps our ability to plan everything. For everyone, the video and photo release below must be signed if you want to be part of this training.
Please note that we may be asking volunteers, including parents, to do a background check.
Adult and current YAE Climate Leaders, volunteer here to help run this training. Students new to our YAE Climate Training program register at:
Very Important: Please read this page for details, along with the follow-up email you will be receiving shortly before the training and any other emails we may send.
☘️To participate, students must stay for the full training.☘️
All students in grades 4-12 (and the homeschool equivalents) and young adults are welcome to all YAE climate trainings! Slightly younger students who are interested in doing the training, please contact us at vergun@
to discuss the possibility of participating.
Invite your friends near and far to join you! Because this training is web based, students from anywhere in the world with internet access and whose English will permit them to join us are encouraged to register!
We are looking for a host for this training for families of all backgrounds. The Congregation P'nai Or Jewish Renewal of Portland and its Tikkun Olam committee, Oregon Interfaith Power & Light, and Easy Treesie are co-sponsoring this training. If your organization might be interested in hosting through contributing financially to this training, please contact Pam right away at
YAE trainings are FREE to students. We greatly appreciate it when families who feel able to give a $36 optional donation to cover some of the basic cost for each of their students, and if you are able to make a further donation to support our ability to cover the cost of an additional student, please do so here:
. In-person trainings include a morning snack and lunch. For video conference trainings we urge parents to try to ensure their student eats a nutritious and hearty breakfast and has a healthy lunch pre-prepared along with a nourishing mid-morning snack. (The students work hard and will need to be well fed if at all possible. 😊) If we are able to get a financial sponsor, host, and/or adequate donations, this training will include small graduation gifts that we will be shipping after the training is complete.
At a climate training, students learn about climate change from other students through engaging in a slide presentation and discussions, working on their ability to speak with knowledge and authority about climate change, and practice sharing that presentation with other students and adults. We will also be using a simple game to learn about climate justice and engaging in a short arts-based activity, as the arts are another way to "speak out". The climate training experience centers on developing students' knowledge and ability to present this information to others—encouraging themselves and others to act to address the climate crisis. A workshop for parents will occur from 9:00 until 11:00; attending will provide parents with additional knowledge and the chance to talk with other parents in a supportive, structured way so they can even better support their youth.
Parents: please do join us for the parents' meeting.
Invite the young people you know and make sure they register on time!

Our Town—And Yours
Parents of current youth leaders who have not attended a parents' meeting during a training are strongly encouraged to attend the parents' meeting.
Parents will be free from about 11:00 to 12:30 and are welcome to volunteer during that time, or leave and return in time for the students' presentation. If you plan to volunteer, please register as a volunteer on our volunteer registration page and note that you are a parent. You may be contacted by our core volunteers before the training.
At 1:00pm, parents will return for a student-led climate presentation and celebrate students' graduation.
At in-person trainings, lunch for youth and volunteers is provided.
Important: 😊 We will be taking photos and videos periodically during the training for help in inspiring others. Your volunteering with us means that you are comfortable with our using photos and/or videos for this purpose.
There are many ways volunteers can help; no special knowledge is required to help, though please share with us any special skills you could contribute to the training. We can especially use the skills of teachers and retired teachers since they help the group work with students to go smoothly. Please email Pam at: vergun @
with any questions. Do make sure to read the email(s) and attachments you will receive from Pam and other leaders, likely shortly before the training.
