2021 COSAR Team Application
Thank you for your interest in joining Central Okanagan Search and Rescue as a volunteer ground search and rescue team member.

Before you complete this application, please understand that we expect all members to contribute a minimum of 200 hrs per year. Many of our members contribute well over 1000 hours per year. Did we mention this is a volunteer position? If the time commitment has not scared you off, please continue with the application!

Eligibility / application requirements:
-Must be 18 years of age or older
-Must be in good physical and mental health and pass an interview
-Provide personal resume with references
-Provide acceptable class 5 driver’s license abstract
-RCMP Criminal Record Check

Upon acceptance into the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue team, members will be classified as MIT’s (Members In Training). All MIT’s will undergo a probationary period at which point the Executive Team will review each applicant (MIT) for recommendation as an operational COSAR team member.

Upon acceptance to the COSAR team, new team members will read, sign, and be bound by COSAR’s Code of Conduct, and be required to abide by all EMBC and COSAR policies.

Training is a critical component of being a competent and reliable team member. All training is provided to members free of charge through the approval of the Executive Team and delivered via professional training organizations such as JIBC, Rescue Canada, and others. MIT’s will be required to successfully complete the GSAR (Ground Search and Rescue) within one year of joining the team. This course is considered the foundation/base requirement for all operational search and rescue technicians.

COSAR members are on-call 24/7 and as an operational member, you will be expected to respond to a minimum of 50% of tasks/call outs and a majority of training events (typically Thursday nights from 7pm to 9pm).

Regular attendance to tasks and training events is the key to keeping skills sharp, building teamwork and trust, and ultimately being part of an important group that saves lives.
