Alpha Gamma Sigma is a California community college honor society (www.ags-honor.org). Its purpose is to foster, promote, maintain, and recognize academic excellence. Simply put, it is a service club for honor students that encourages leadership, good character, and sound judgment through service projects, fund raisers, and social events that benefit the school and the community.
Benefits of an AGS membership:
• Develops confidence and leadership skills • Provides opportunities to give back to the school and local community • Provides an opportunity to meet people and have fun • Exposes members to information and networking opportunities through attending leadership conferences • Awards special recognition at graduation • Provides scholarship opportunities • Stands out on a resume or university transfer application
Membership and active participation requirements: • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 • Must have completed at least 12 semester units • Perform 8-16 volunteer hours per semester by participating in meetings, service projects, fundraising activities, and leadership conferences. • Pay semester dues: o $10 for new members o $12 for continuing members o $15 for permanent members
Students may be active on either the Lompoc or Santa Maria campuses. Meetings are held on each campus approximately every two weeks during fall and spring semesters.
