Latinx Veterans Town Hall
As part of Hispanic Heritage month and in keeping with the tradition of warrior storytelling, the City of Boston Veterans' Services will be hosting the 1st annual Latinx Veterans Town Hall. This will be an opportunity for Latinx veterans to describe the life that time in service bestowed upon them.

Veteran Town Halls give veterans of all wars a chance to address their community directly and without intermediaries. Veterans speak about what his or her service means to them through a story, a summary of service, message, letter home, an excerpt from a journal, or even the story behind a photograph.

The event is intended to be solemn and non-political. There will be no question-and-answer period afterward. There will be no debate on the merits or justifications of war. There will be no recriminations or accusations. This is simply a chance for veterans to tell the community about their experiences while serving their country. Some vets will be incredibly proud. Others will be angry. A few might struggle with too much emotion to be able to speak.

A community ceremony like this will return the experience of war and service to the country to our community rather than just leaving it to those who fought. This town hall is open to everyone as the public is encouraged to attend, to listen, and to learn.

As we head into Hispanic Heritage month celebrations, let’s remember those that fought and continue to fight for our freedoms.

Consider joining us at our next town hall where we dedicate a space for our Latinx veterans to share their stories.

Latinx veterans are encouraged to sign up to speak in advance of the Town Hall, but will also have the opportunity to sign up at the door. Each speaker is asked to keep their story under 10 minutes to allow others time to speak.

When: October 10, 2019, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 PM
Where: Urban Edge, 1542 Columbus Ave, Roxbury, MA 02119

Again, this event is free and open to the public. Light appetizers will be served.

Members of the press are asked to obtain permission from veteran speakers before releasing to the public.
