Dear HCA Parents,
Happy Spring! As we welcome in spring, warmer weather, and more opportunities to be outside, we are excited to bring a focus back to the fitness element of the Food for Life program. Food for Life is a program that is exclusive to HCA and consists of gardening, fitness, and nutrition – all elements intended to equip our students to have fit bodies. When we are fit, our bodies work the way they were intended, we feel well, and we have fewer limitations.
We are beginning the spring with a focus on moving more. We have already begun to encourage students to move more in March and want to continue this effort throughout the spring with fitness challenges. We will encourage students to track their movements with pedometers. Our goal is to provide fun challenges that will encourage them to move a little more each day.
If you are able, would you provide your student with a wrist pedometer? There is a wide array of features and varied price options for devices that track steps, but the simple ones will suffice. There are several potential options listed below, or you may choose to purchase a pedometer with the HCA 5K logo by completing this form. Your FACTS account will be charged $7.50 for each pedometer ordered.
We hope to begin these challenges next week, starting Monday, April 4th and lead up to the HCA 5K on Saturday, May 21st. We hope the challenges will lead to some great conversations and new habits at home for your student as well!

Parents can connect trackers (but not wrist pedometers) to their phone and track children’s steps, sleep, and more. These also have timers, the ability to set up goals, and other useful features.
