A DAY OF LEARNING AND CONNECTION AROUND COMMUNICATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Nonviolent Communication (NVC), or Collaborative Communication, is a powerful tool for resolving and mediating interpersonal, intra-personal, organizational, and inter-group conflicts. It is used worldwide by parents, teachers, doctors, social workers, managers, and others to improve their work and home life. The practice of NVC can help us understand ourselves more fully, provide us with a sense of power and choice in our lives, and open our hearts to compassionately connect and collaborate with others.

This day-long public event will bring together a team of DC-area NVC trainers to offer numerous interactive workshops on a variety of topics for participants to choose from, including introductory and advanced NVC sessions, including (tentative titles):

• After Ferguson: Making Room for Full Authenticity and Healing of All of US with James Lee and Louis Davis
• How to Enjoy Bad Sex by Jane Connor
• Authentic Feelings and Needs: a Short Introduction to Compassionate Communication by Rhonda Eldridge (children welcome)  
• Beyond Demands: NVC for Social Justice by Louisa Davis
• Empathy Coaching and a session on NVC Dance Floors by Hally Childs
• NVC Games: A Taste of Family HEART Camp by Rhonda Eldridge (children welcome)
*      How to Be Present in Difficult Relationships by Barbra Esher
• Empathy and Social Change by Ryan McAllister and Tarek Maassarani
• Introduction to NVC: The Four Bridges to Love and Power by Louisa Davis
• Thriving in Connection: NVC in the Family (children welcome) by Mali Parke

Please feel free to come for all or part of the day and bring your friends and family. If you miss the opening plenary with the day's offerings, check out the schedule board outside of the classrooms. ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS
Ward Hall is the building on American University's main campus located on Ward Circle at the intersection of Nebraska and Massachusetts Avenues in northwest DC. An American University shuttle to campus is available at the Tenley metro station (red line). Bus and metro connections from throughout the DC area can be found at wmata.com. The workshopswill take place in Ward Hall, Rooms 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 107, and 113.

FOOD
 
Snacks will be provided throughout the day. For lunch, you are invited to bring a dish (labeled with the name of the dish and its ingredients) that doesn't require refrigeration and participate in our optional potluck lunch. Otherwise, there are a variety of eateries within walking distance on campus.
