Chapter Chompers Virtual Meeting! Monday, January 25th @ 6pm
Welcome to the Chapter Chompers! The goal of Chapter Chompers is to promote a love of reading among our students, while creating bonds through books between students and parents. Since our school is not allowed to have in-person events for the foreseeable future, we are taking Chapter Chompers virtual this year! We hope this will provide a way for our students to connect with their classmates in a fun and engaging way!
About once a month, we will choose one book to discuss. Our January selection is Lois Lowry's Newbury award-winning book "Number the Stars". Lexile 670.
Summary from Amazon.com: "As the German troops begin their campaign to "relocate" all the Jews of Denmark, Annemarie Johansen’s family takes in Annemarie’s best friend, Ellen Rosen, and conceals her as part of the family. Through the eyes of ten-year-old Annemarie, we watch as the Danish Resistance smuggles almost the entire Jewish population of Denmark, nearly seven thousand people, across the sea to Sweden. The heroism of an entire nation reminds us that there was pride and human decency in the world even during a time of terror and war.
Please read the book before the meeting and ask your child to be ready to discuss it with you and their fellow schoolmates. A Zoom link will be sent to your email address from
before the meeting. Please check your Spam folder for the link.
MEETING FORMAT: We will be meeting via Zoom. After initial book introduction and review, we will be separating the larger group into "break out" discussion rooms, so that the parents and students can speak together in small groups. Each breakout room will have a volunteer to lead the discussion with questions. Please note that while students are encouraged to share their thoughts with their parents and classmates, there is no obligation to do so. This is supposed to be fun, not stressful!
