Stakeholders E-Consultation: Elements for the declaration and themes for the interactive dialogues of the 2020 United Nations Ocean Conference
Convened by the United Nations and hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, the “2020 United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development” will be held from 2-6 June 2020 in Lisbon, Portugal. The overarching theme of the 2020 UN Ocean Conference is “Scaling up ocean action based on science and innovation for the implementation of Goal 14: stocktaking, partnerships and solutions” .
A preparatory meeting is scheduled to be held on 4-5 February 2020 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Permanent Representatives of Denmark and Palau have been appointed as co-facilitators to oversee the preparatory process and intergovernmental consultations for the 2020 UN Conference declaration. The declaration shall be brief, concise, action-oriented and intergovernmentally agreed and focus on, and highlight, the science-based and innovative areas of action to support the implementation of Goal 14.

The 2020 UN Ocean Conference will involve all relevant stakeholders, bringing together Governments, the United Nations system, intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions, other interested international bodies, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations and other actors to assess challenges and opportunities relating to, as well as actions taken towards, the implementation of SDG 14.

This form is intended to collect inputs from non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations, major groups and other stakeholders on elements for the declaration as well as the themes for the interactive dialogues for the 2020 UN Ocean Conference.

Inputs will be made publicly available. Name and contact details of authors will not be displayed.

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT INPUTS: 10 February 2020.
