The student participants selected are seeking scholarly, professional, and personal development through intensive work in the nonprofit sector. Ideal community partners are able to provide committed mentoring and supervision to the student and a work plan that enriches the capacity of their organization while connecting to the student's academic and/or professional interests.
Interns work for 30 hours a week with their hosts, Monday - Thursday. Fridays are reserved for SNIP seminars where students will dive into academic questions surrounding civic engagement, volunteerism, nonprofit management, and social justice.
We enthusiastically welcome proposals for hosting interns from individual nonprofits in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and the surrounding area. We also welcome proposals for interns to work on collaborative projects led by 2 or more nonprofits/community organizations, provided there is a clear explanation of who the intern's primary mentor will be.
The Pro Humanitate Institute will select 13 community partners to serve as placements for the summer of 2018. Ideal partners will articulate a clear work plan for their intern that shows a strong connection to the organization's mission while being flexible enough to connect with the students academic and/or professional goals. Ideal partners will show a willingness and ability to provide close supervision and mentoring and to communicate clearly and regularly with PHI staff.
SNIP will run from June 4th - July 27th. SNIP Fellows will take an introductory intensive seminar from June 4th and June 5th to prepare them for their work with partners. They will work at their placements June 6th - July 27th.
The application for SNIP Community Partners will close on February 13th. Site visits will be conducted on a rolling basis. Selected Community Partners will be notified by February 22nd.
If you have applied to be a SNIP partner in the past and your work plan for interns has not changed, you do not need to reapply. Just let us know that you would like to be considered as hosts for 2018.
