Team Member Character and involvement Agreement
We understand that people come from all walks of life and are in different stages of their relationship with God. The following is meant to serve as a guideline for those who serve as a Team Member of The Shores Church.
Regarding Action and Speech
As a Christian, you always represent Christ. As a Team Member, you always represent Christ and The Shores Church. We are here to help you grow in the Lord. All of us are human and, will at different times, make mistakes. We are more than willing to walk with you through anything at any point. However, individuals and/or groups that cause “strife & discord” in the church and/or among team members will be dealt with. We own up to the fact that we are stronger together. Therefore, we need to speak and act positively!
Regarding Social Media
If you are on any social media platform, your Shores Church family may choose to follow you and see your posts. While social media can be a great connection tool, it is also a great picture of your life outside of Sunday. Because of this, we ask that you keep in mind that we are to honor the Lord and serve as His ambassadors wherever we go…including the Internet. Please know that the things you post (language, pictures, comments, etc.) on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media sites are usually accessible to your church family of all ages, as well as those looking to you as a witness for Christ outside of The Shores Church. Please use good, godly judgment!
Regarding Alcohol/Drug Use And Self-Harm
If any of the statements below describe your life, we ask that you not join the team at this time:
• Have been arrested for or convicted of an alcohol or drug-related offense in the past twelve months.
• Currently being treated for alcohol or drug abuse
• Currently using any illegal substances (not prescribed to you by a licensed, practicing physician).
• Abusing prescription drugs by taking more than the prescribed dosage, and/or using them for reasons other than the reason prescribed.
• Consuming alcohol and other substances to the point of you being impaired at any level (intoxicated/drunkenness) or to the point of exceeding the legal limit at any time.
• Carrying out any action/addiction that causes temporary or permanent harm to your body (example: cutting)
Regarding Sexual Behavior
The Bible teaches that sex was created by God as an expression of intimacy between a man and a woman within the context of marriage. If any of the below statements describe your current way of living, we ask that you not join in a leadership position at this time. Non-leadership positions are indicated by an underline. These underlined positions may be applied for now. Take advantage of this season to grow in your faith and apply for a leadership position at a later date.
• Involvement in a sexual relationship and you are not married.
• Pursuing a relationship with the same gender.
• Living with a member of the opposite sex (not family) and not married.
• Married and are currently involved in an emotional or physical relationship outside of your marriage.
• Addiction to or regular viewing of pornography.
Please know that if any of the above descriptions currently describe you, it does not exclude you from attending and growing at The Shores Church. Please look at all the serving areas marked *non-leadership*. If you find yourself struggling with any of the above situations, please feel free to contact Pastor Scott so that we can assist in finding the appropriate support for you.
Regarding Commitment and Involvement
We are big believers in the fact that consistency breeds growth. The Bible says in Psalms that “those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish”. Part of the church’s and pastor’s job is to help those that are planted in the local church grow. We all know and understand that no one will be present 100% of the time due to life circumstances, work, emergencies, family, vacation, and more. When you are part of the volunteer team and in town, we ask that you be in attendance when not serving. This promotes health, familiarity, and support of what God is doing in and through The Shores Church, as well as you!
Second, we ask that you strive to be on time to Sunday service when not serving. This also promotes health and instant engagement when a visitor walks in and sees other people. In addition, you show support of all God is doing through The Shores Church!
Finally, we ask that you solely commit to The Shores Church as your church. When something (or someone) is planted, the constant uprooting of anything is not healthy and stunts growth. If at any time you feel led to a different ministry/church, please schedule a time with Pastor Scott to talk about possibilities.
Thank you for your interest in, and commitment to The Shores Church.
Blessings!
