Abstract: As Large Language Models (LLMs) evolve, their utility in research is shifting towards sophisticated algorithmic and mathematical assistance. This two-hour tutorial provides a hands-on exploration of how tools like Gemini Pro can be effectively leveraged within the mathematical domain. By addressing the limitations of current AI and focusing on practical use cases, we will demonstrate how to integrate these models into daily research tasks without compromising mathematical rigor. We will conclude with a broader outlook on the current state of the art and future of AI-assisted mathematical research.
Bios: Paul Dütting and Renato Paes Leme are Research Scientists in the Market Algorithms group at Google Research, based in Zurich and New York, respectively. Their work lies at the interface of Economics and Computation, spanning fundamental topics across computer science, mathematics, and economics. Recognized as leading figures in their field, they have received numerous awards for their research. The breadth and depth of their work is reflected in publications across top-tier venues, including premier journals (such as Annals of Applied Probability, Journal of the ACM, and Econometrica) as well as leading algorithmic and machine learning conferences (e.g., STOC, FOCS, and NeurIPS).
