Trollheim is tucked into the Northwoods of the Upper St. Croix, near Dairyland WI. It sits on five mixed acres of prairie, woods and creek, near the St. Croix and Namekagon Rivers and nearly 300,000 acres of public county forest.
Trollheim will take its main bearings from folklore, traditional knowledge, and storytelling and theater arts, with a heavy dose of D&D-style fantasy adventure. It is the artistic home of the Fox & Beggar Theater, and will house our projects and residencies for years to come. In 2026 we plan to plant an apple orchard, establish our garden, and build the first of many large troll sculptures on the land. Other passions here include Ojibwe and Norsk language study, archery and bowhunting, processing roadkill, circus arts, puppetry, canoeing and fishing, wild foraging, dance parties, board games, Old Time and fiddle music, and general woodland merriment.
We are entering our second year of land ownership and our first year accepting short-to-medium length residencies. Residents will be provided a clean furnished bedroom and full access to both kitchens (indoor and outdoor), all work spaces, and everywhere on the land, as well as use of any larger community tools or items (ie canoes).
There is no cost to live and stay here, but residents should expect to contribute 10-20 hours monthly toward our long-term goals of housing people and things that build a stronger local world and a shared belief in wild magic. Long-term visions for the land include providing child foster care (if all county building codes can be met), hosting wilderness-oriented summer camps, and eventually, developing a coffee stand / café along the nearby highway. We'll tell you more details if you’d like to know -- please email your questions to nat@foxandbeggar.org
There are four bedrooms in the main house, as well as ample space in the warm months for tent camping or tiny home parking.
Residency proposals are ongoing, can start anytime, and last up to 12 months. Folks that seem like a good fit will be contacted to set up a phone call, where both sides can ask questions to learn more about the feasibility of the residency. Everything here is still extremely casual and we're making it up as we go along.
