St Francis of Assisi Catholic School
This information can be found on our website under the Digital Technologies @ St Francis tab. Read through these Guidelines and discuss them with your child. If you have more than one child, please submit the form for each child.
Digital technologies have an increasing role in teaching and learning, in running our workplaces, and in our daily lives. At St Francis of Assisi Catholic School we value our internet facilities and digital technologies and the benefits they bring us in learning outcomes and the effective operation of the school.

We actively encourage our students to be competent and confident in the use of digital technologies; and are aware of and able to manage the challenges and issues that go with it. These issues include safety of themselves and others, privacy, copyright, and protection of digital devices and equipment. In short, we are growing our students to make responsible choices while using digital technologies; becoming digital citizens.

As defined by NetSafe, a digital citizen:

- is a confident and capable user of digital technologies
- uses technologies to participate in educational, cultural, and economic activities
- uses and develops critical thinking skills in cyberspace
- is literate in the language, symbols, and texts of digital technologies
- is aware of digital technolgies challenges and can manage them effectively
- uses digital technologies to relate to others in positive, meaningful ways
- demonstrates honesty and integrity and ethical behaviour in their use of digital technologies
- respects the concepts of privacy and freedom of speech in a digital world
- contributes and actively promotes the values of digital citizenship.

Because we know this is important for us all, we ask everyone, the staff, the students and volunteers working at the school to agree to use the internet and digital technologies in a safe and responsible way by following the guidelines below.

If someone cannot agree to act responsibly, or the things they do mean that other people are being harmed, then we might stop them from using the internet and/or digital technologies at school.

We are more than happy to discuss any of this with you, please feel welcome to do this at any time.
