In 2009, at the urgent request of the City Department of Human Services, AmeriCorps St. Louis began partnering with Winter Outreach to provide emergency shelter to the homeless when the temperature drops below 20 degrees. At these frigid temperatures, the homeless St. Louis City population of around 1,300 people, face life-threatening consequences without a warm place to sleep. Each winter, however, AmeriCorps St. Louis is ready to open doors of our Winter Warming shelter to those in need. We rely on volunteers to help us continue to give those without anywhere else to go a place to sleep on the coldest nights of the year.
Our shelter is part of a network of emergency shelters that coordinate together to provide housing for one of St. Louis' most vulnerable populations. We urgently need volunteers to assist us during the months of November to March on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Volunteers will assist with shelter logistics including setting up, checking folks in and out, helping guests to have a safe stay, and serving hot meals.
At the end of this form, you will be directed to a Google Spreadsheet where you can sign-up for specific volunteer shifts at our Shelter. If at any time this form closes or you need to access the Spreadsheet again, you may access the sign-up by clicking on the following link:
