Join us for an evening with two of Victoria's most eminent historians and authors of books on the history of precolonial and post-invasion First Peoples in what became known as Victoria, Professor Richard Broome and Dr Gary Presland.  They will lead and guide us in drawing the lessons for today's allyship from their deep understanding of this history.

Professor Richard Broome

In his new book, eminent historian and President of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria Professor Richard Broome tells the story of the impact of European ideas, guns, killer microbes and a pastoral economy on the networks of kinship, trade and cultures that the First Nations people of Victoria had developed over millennia. He shows how families have coped with ongoing disruption and displacement, and how individuals and groups have challenged the system.

Dr Gary Presland

Dr Presland is an authority on Aboriginal history and natural history in Naarm/Melbourne and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, and the author of a number of books on precolonial and early colonial Aboriginal history of Naarm and environs.
