Trials, Tunes, and Turbulent Times: The 1920s in Tennessee

During the 2025-2026 school year, the Tennessee State Library & Archives invites Tennessee teachers to attend a workshop exploring strategies for teaching a variety of topics from the 1920s such as Prohibition, the Scopes Trial, popular culture, the causes of the Great Depression, and more. Tennessee Social Studies and English Language Arts standards related to events of the 1920s will be explored throughout the workshop.

Using diverse mediums such as political cartoons, newspapers records, photographs, advertisements, music, and other informational texts, we will provide opportunities for educators to discover activities that build student background knowledge and engage the classroom in a cross-curricular approach.

Teacher participants will receive lunch and six hours of professional development credit.
