My Louisiana doesn’t believe that anyone should be discriminated against because of who they are or who they love. My Louisiana welcomes everyone.
Rep. Mike Johnson has again filed a bill that goes against everything I know about how Louisianians treat their neighbors. Just as he promised, HB 597 continues his attempt to legalize discrimination in the state I love.
Other states have drawn national backlash from businesses, conventions, and film productions as the legislative process turns these bills into vehicles to enable worse and worse forms of discrimination.
Even Georgia’s conservative Republican governor has said any bill in his state that would allow discrimination in the name of protecting people of faith should be rejected.
Louisiana is currently in the middle of a huge budget crisis, and a bill like HB 597 would land a huge blow to our already suffering economy.
I call on the Louisiana state legislature to do what is right for our state and our economy – oppose Rep. Johnson’s HB 597.
I want people to see the Louisiana I know. I don’t want Louisiana to be the next state to legalize discrimination.
