SWCOLT 2022 - Session Proposal Form

CONFERENCE DATES: Friday-Saturday, March 25 - 26 (Pre-conference workshops on the Thursday the 24th.)

THEME: Building Bridges and Breaking Barriers!

Compelling proposals address the needs of today’s learners and educators by focusing on innovative programs, emerging trends and research-informed practices.

In the unique context of this year's returning Face-to-Face format, proposals should consider time for educators to BUILD BRIDGES, sharing ideas and/or facilitating collaborative work which translates to classroom practice...maximizing the power of connecting educators across all 9 of our Southwest Conference States!

Below are the focus areas for submitting proposals. Please read the descriptors carefully before you submit your proposal.

Proposals under this focus area may address topics such as national standards, articulation, learner variables, 21st Century skills, instructional design, curriculum, horizontal and vertical, resources and learner variables, instructional design, instructional resources, choosing of resources, creating objectives/outcomes, 21st Century Skills Map, personalized learning, unit design or curriculum, and online or hybrid learning.

Proposals under this focus area may address areas such as authentic materials/resources, immersion, use of target language, cultural competence/interculturality, instructional strategies, learning tasks, project-based learning, culture or policy/legislation.

Proposals under this focus area may address areas such as the Integrated Performance Assessments (IPA), proficiency targets, Oral Proficincy Interviews (OPI), performance assessment / performance tasks, teacher evaluation and accountability, performance/proficiency, formative or summative assessment, research, classroom-based action research, Can-do statements, developing rubrics, assessment practices or educator effectiveness.

If doing more than one presentation, please submit a separate proposal for each one you would like for SWCOLT to consider for the program. You may submit to one of these formats:

1.) Interest Session (60 min. total) – Interest sessions should describe a plan for no more than 60 minutes total of input/presentation. Interest sessions should address a topic of interest to attendees within one of the four focus areas. In your session submission, clearly define the valuable information you will share in your 60 minutes of input, and describe how you will present it in an engaging and/or interactive format. Then, if you plan collaborative time, describe the collaborative task you will facilitate with your audience - please remember that any collaborative time is part of your 60 minutes.

2.) Silver Strike Sessions (15 min.): This is a 15-minute presentation and discussion about classroom tested, ready-to-use tips and techniques. Sessions will group 3 different presentations together on similar or complimentary topics, and participants will stay in one room for the full session. At the end, there will be Question/Answer time open to all presenters. Attendees will leave the session with 3 fabulous lesson ideas.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION: Proposals must be in a publishable format. Since you are entering your submission into a database format, avoid using symbols, marks or letters that do not appear in English because they may not translate into the final published session description. All proposals must be written in third person format avoiding the use of “I” and “we.” All accepted proposals will be printed in the SWCOLT Online Program as submitted during the Call for Proposals; however, SWCOLT reserves the right to edit when necessary.

Please complete ALL of the following information. Before you click SUBMIT, we recommend that you print a copy of this submission for your records.
