ICC Peer Support Application
Islam Care Centre is currently recruiting and training a youth peer education volunteer group for our internally developed Mental Health Support Program, Care Circles. Care Circles is a welcoming safe space for youth from all cultural and religious backgrounds to discuss whatever is on their minds without judgment with people who care. The weekly youth drop-in support group is facilitated by trained counsellors, staff, and volunteers.

Various activities will be incorporated into the session to help facilitate and youth will be given practical tools so they can combat those issues within themselves and within their community. Weekly sessions may cover topics such as bullying, suicide, depression, body image/disordered eating, anxiety, self esteem, toxic relationships, addictions, discrimination, etc.

Peer Support Volunteers provide youth with non-professional support that is rooted in their shared experience. They will be accessible, welcoming, accommodating to their peers, and will provide a safe space. Volunteers are expected to assist trained counsellors and staff with facilitating the support circles. Volunteers will also be assigned secondary tasks regarding the logistics, finance, and marketing related to the support groups. Training and orientation are provided, as is ongoing support.
