Five chapters long, Lamentations is a collection of five poems or songs born from an eyewitness - traditionally thought to be Jeremiah - to Jerusalem's destruction at the hands of her enemies, her struggle to survive the fallout, and her longing for restoration. What's there to learn for us today? The lost art of lamenting our sin, suffering, and the fallenness of our world, laced with the never-ceasing steadfastness of God's love and his new morning mercies.
Lamentations gives us permission to meet the brutality of the world and the gravity of our own sin with honesty, vulnerability, and a grace that redeems and promises to one day restore in Christ.
