All workshops take place on a Saturday from 11 am to 4.30 pmSelect the specific date you would like to book below
Specifically, the workshop will show you how to define your position, so that it means the same thing to everyone, and how to explain to your audience in plain English of what it would mean to support your idea.
The day will begin with a masterclass in the morning, in which you will be broken up into small groups to work on a series of exercises, so you can get comfortable speaking in front of each other before you are asked to speak in front of the rest of the room. No one will be required to speak in front of the room until they feel ready to do so.
The afternoon will be dedicated to a mock debate, which will serve as a rehearsal for the upcoming public debate on the same topic. Members can volunteer to be on the panel for these debates a week in advance when the topic is announced, but everyone can take part by questioning the speakers, making speeches of their own, and offering feedback.
All participants will receive a paper handout on arrival, which will be circulated electronically after the workshop. All you will need to bring with you is something to write with.
Both members and non-members are welcome to attend our workshops, but as members have year-round access to our workshops, we give them first refusal on booking a place before opening it up to non-members.
So, if you are a member of the club, you do not need to do anything else once you have completed this form.
But, if you are not a member, you will need to wait until 3-5 days before the workshop begins for a confirmation of your place to ensure we do not exceed the capacity of the venue (about 25 people).
*Please note this fee covers only your admission to the workshop and does not include lunch, though this can be purchased from the venue if you wish to eat with us. Members are also required to purchase their own lunch.
