TurnOut is a 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to mobilize communities to power queer and trans movements (www.turnout.org). A significant part of our work is staffing large-scale LGBTQ+ events.

Our work is focused mainly on volunteer recruitment and support. However, sometimes we have trouble filling certain shifts with volunteers (often shifts that are very early or very late, for example). In order to ensure these shifts are filled, we maintain a roster of individuals who do hourly gig work in queer and trans spaces. For example: drag performers, go go dancers, bar tenders, bar backs, DJs, door staff, and performance artists.

The purpose of this roster is two-fold: 1) to ensure our events have the staffing support they need; and 2) to create additional opportunities to make money for the individuals who do so much for queer and trans communities.

Typically a gig will last 4-5 hours and pay $25/hour. Most of the time the jobs involve event setup and breakdown, but there are many jobs that may need support. We do not know which jobs are available until a week or two before the event. When a need arises, we send out an email to everyone on the roster and the shifts are filled on a first come first serve basis.
