What you need to know
The Valley Fire scorched 10,000 acres rapidly across some of the most heavily used mule deer winter range on the Boise Front.  We need your help to start rehabilitating the landscape for wildlife. You will be part of a multi-year, multi-pronged effort to restore habitat on the Boise River Wildlife Management Area.

Early plans include volunteer-based seed collections, habitat plantings, and hand seed broadcasting.  We will also apply herbicide to treat exotic annual grasses and rush skeltonweed, and intend to aerially seed large acreages with native grasses and sagebrush.

The weather can vary from cool and sunny to cold, windy, or even wet in early November.  Please dress accordingly.  From our meeting location at Albertson's, expect a 20min drive to the Archery Range.  From the Archery Range, expect a short drive up to the planting location.

Carpooling to the site from our meeting location is recommended. If you are able to provide some open seats for carpooling, please state so in the comments- That would be greatly appreciated!

Fish and Game will provide all the tools and equipment required for planting and will provide used leather planting gloves. All planting tools will be provided; planting bar, shovels, buckets, and trowels.  Bring your own knee pad (s) and/or other favorite planting tools if you like.

For November 9th, plan to plant sagebrush and rabbitbrush plugs by hand using planting bars and hand trowels. No experience required; a brief training tutorial will be provided by Fish and Game staff and volunteers. Expect the project to go into early afternoon, wrapping up at 2-3pm.
What you should bring
Please remember to dress for late fall weather. You will need to bring layered clothing, rain gear or a jacket/coat, boots or sturdy shoes, a hat, and gloves. It could be rainy, snowy, breezy and cool OR it could be sunny and moderate.

Come prepared!  You will need to bring a sack lunch and water for the day.  We expect the day to be around 6 hours long, including driving.  Bring a day pack to hold your food and extra layers.  We will try and accommodate with gentle terrain for volunteers that need it, to moderately steep terrain for those that are capable.
