Have you ever used our online store, Quantum Bass Market?
Do you visit our web site,
I've never visited it
I have looked at it occasionally
I regularly visit the site to see newly-added content/inventory
I read your blogs
I have used the resources on your site such as information for teachers, beginning bassists, and links
Do you feel Quantum Bass Center contributes an important presence to the string community in Houston? Please choose the option that most closely describes your impression.
Yes, Quantum Bass Center has developed resources for string players that were not available in Houston previously
Not really - the needs of string players are adequately supplied by more mainstream music stores/ string shops
Quantum Bass Center is just one of several similar stringed-instrument shops
I'm not in Houston, so I don't know about its role in the community.
We are housed in an old, funky arts building. What are your feelings about Quantum Bass Center's facility?
I like the atmosphere of your facility!
I feel that the state of your facility is contrary to being seen as a fine-instrument dealer.
It's so bad that I don't even want to go there.
I understand that being housed in a minimal-rent facility translates to lower prices to your customers.
I really don't care about the building, as long as you provide the products, services, and prices I like.
I have not visited (perhaps don't live in the Houston area)
Quantum Bass Center constantly researches market prices on strings in order to offer the lowest prices of any authorized dealer (not drop-shippers on Amazon), yet, sales of strings on our web store are less than 1% of sales transactions. Can you offer any insights?
I am still finding lower prices elsewhere and have not asked Quantum Bass Center to price-match.
I am used to buying my strings at a certain place and have never checked your web store.
I am loyal to another store or mail-order site and don't plan to order from your web store, regardless of pricing.
Quantum Bass Market does not carry the strings I use, and I have not requested them.
Price notwithstanding, your web store or other purchasing experience makes it too difficult to buy strings from you.
I buy my strings from you in-person
I never buy strings
We are curious as to how we can maintain and widely advertise one of the largest collections of double basses on the continent, yet see long stretches of time with very low interest. Can you offer any insights? Feel free to elaborate under "Other".
Your prices are simply higher than your competitors
The economy is bad
People are not that interested in the bass
People are reluctant to buy used instruments - you need to stock more new ones
You need more financing options (we currently can refer to two instrument loan providers)
You need to offer a longer or more comprehensive warranty
You need to offer "buy it now" so people can mail-order the basses
Not enough people know about Quantum Bass Center
You don't have enough selection. Only 50 basses - really?
People want brand names you don't carry
People will only buy from the store where they have been renting (the Sunk Cash Bias), even though you offer a Rental Rescue program
People are only using your web site to collect information they can use to negotiate a lower price elsewhere
People don't like your instruments and are not going to tell you
It's too hard to contact you with questions
You don't provide enough information to attract visitors to try out the basses
You need to have an instrument maker on staff to build credibility
You have a bad reputation
You don't advertise in key venues
We are located very near the Theatre District, where the majority of local professional string players work, and stock strings and accessories for all instruments. How could we get more violinists, violists, and cellists to stop by?
Orchestra teachers and students: if you needed our services to repair your school instruments or to recommend as a place for your students to rent, what types of advertising would get you to notice us? Any magazines or sites we should be advertising in? How would your newly-enrolled orchestra students find us?
What are your feelings about Quantum Bass Center's prices?
You generally offer the lowest prices
I would buy from you even if your prices were a little higher than other dealers
I comparison shop and will buy from the lowest-priced provider, which is often not Quantum Bass Center
I comparison shop and find Quantum Bass Center DOES usually have the lowest prices
I prefer to buy from Quantum Bass Center, so if I find a lower price, I ask you to match it.
Quantum Bass Center has a policy of clearly labelling instruments with prices, but not encouraging negotiation (negotiating instrument prices is more common). What are your opinions?
Posting your prices on your web site is a fair and honest practice.
Posting prices on your web site only serves to give competitors an easy way to undersell you.
Instrument dealers should really expect to negotiate with clients, as everybody does it.
I have refrained from buying something from you because I felt making an offer was forbidden.
Please check whether your knew about these offerings from Quantum Bass Center. We are curious, as these programs have been developed in response to needs expressed, but few people take advantage of them. We wonder if people just don't know it's offered (they are described on the web site, however).
Quantum Bass Center loans (free of charge) instruments to schools when they are stuck waiting for budgets to be released so they can buy or repair instruments they need.
Quantum Bass Center accepts students to its classes and workshops even if they cannot pay full tuition.
Quantum Bass Center advertises and sells instruments, bows and sheet music directly from makers and composers at extremely low (5%) or no commission, to help these artisans be represented in the marketplace.
Quantum Bass Center discounts its consignment commission rate for clients who are re-selling an instrument they bought here.

We do ON-SITE REPAIRS at schools and (some) conventions - no sending in instruments and waiting weeks for minor repairs
Which of these would you buy from Quantum Bass Center, but to your knowledge, we do not currently offer it? Please check categories, then list specifics under "Other".

How can we best encourage customers to give more feedback on their wants and needs, and suggestions for how we can serve you better?

A survey sent after a customer makes a purchase

Our direct mail (snail mail) flyers
Asking customers for testimonials we can post on facebook or our web site

When you see pieces of our advertising, what interests you the most?
Knowing what's on sale (instrument, accessories, etc.)
Reading a blog or article about technique or instruments
Repair-shop gore (damaged instruments, botched repairs)
Bass pr0n (lovely photos of bare-naked expensive basses)
Things about music in the community (scholarships won, outreach concerts etc.)
Photos of our visitors - customers and bass royalty
Our absurdist humor
Sometimes, we post something about a bad repair or deceiving label that was done elsewhere (without naming names). What are your thoughts about this?
It is inappropriate to publicly criticize
It's good to know if an instrument has a fake label or bad repair, in hopes shops will improve their practices.
For whatever reason, the 'absurdist' humor we post gets more attention than our most elevated, best-researched informative posts. What are your thoughts about this?
It shows Quantum Bass Center is creative and light-hearted within a business sector that usually takes itself way too seriously.
It's entertaining, but I don't have an opinion on how it affects your image.
It's detrimental to having an image as a fine-instrument dealer. You should not post this type of thing.
You guys might think it's humorous, but the pieces are really not funny.
The best way to increase a client base is always word-of-mouth. What, if anything, would prompt you to share with others encouraging them to discover Quantum Bass Center? Please check all that apply, then put the number of the MOST important thing under "OTHER".
1 - If we offered to put your photo on our web site
2 - If we offered you a VIP discount program
3 - If we mailed you flyers to post in your studio/classroom
4 - If we gave away more promotional items (T-shirts, etc)
5 - If we advertised in a publication important to you (your school's or orchestra's concert program?)
6 - If we made it easier to share internet posts and items from emails
7 - If we created a package of the printed materials and instrument accessories you want all your students to have
8 - If we carried specific items that you think are important for people to know about
9 - If we took out more high-profile advertising (such as Strad Magazine) and groomed a higher-profile image
10 - If we adapted to become a place that you more closely identify with
11 - If you were concerned about missing what Quantum Bass Center has to offer, should we decide to re-locate or change our business model due to lack of interest from the public.
If you are provided with easy ways to spread the word about QBC, how likely are you to take action (share a post, forward an email, post a flyer, etc)?
I wouldn't do anything
I would take action to post/forward things I like/find important

Offer products I can only find elsewhere

Clear up an issue with me over a mistake from the past
Convert to a more mainstream, commercial business model, such as a commercial storefront, color catalogue and employee uniforms, that makes people feel more comfortable.
Offer loyalty rewards (discounts are already offered to instrument buyers)
Expand your hours - you need to be open Sunday, Monday, and/or earlier/later in the day (please elaborate under "other")
Get some air conditioning and do something about the appalling restroom.
