***IMPORTANT NOTE***
WE ARE AT CAPACITY FOR THIS EVENT.  ANY SIGN-UPS RECEIVED ON 3/8 OR LATER WILL BE ADDED TO A WAIT LIST.

Come hone your skills as an effective open space champion. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, courtesy of Whole Foods  Market.

Saturday March 11, 2017 from 8:30am-1pm, followed by an optional lunch portion from 1-1:30pm.  Location: Fenway Community Center, 1282 Boylston Street, Boston.

We'll start with breakfast and mingling at 8:30am, followed by a session on the Boston Parks Department.  Then we'll find out how advocates in Roslindale are creating great play spaces.  After that, we'll split into four groups to learn about fundraising for parks, park improvement projects, engaging the community, and advocating for state parks. Next, we'll come up with ideas for open space and recreation projects that can benefit from Community Preservation Act funds.  Finally, there is an optional lunch-time portion for you to spend more time connecting with other open space supporters from around the city.

This is free and open to everyone from teens up.

Boston Park Advocates is coordinating the compilation of a list of possible open space projects for Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding consideration. CPA funds can be used to acquire open space. They can also be used to restore open space and improve, rehabilitate, and restore land for conservation purposes and recreational opportunities. The land does not have to be owned by Boston or the state to receive CPA funds. The project proponent only needs to show that there is a public benefit to the project. Examples of types of properties include parks, community gardens, and urban wilds.  If you have an idea for a possible CPA open space project for a location in Boston, please share it below or bring it to the Bootcamp.  A portion of the day will be dedicated to generating a list of potential CPA projects.
