In October, the university management lured us back to Oxford on the promise of a “blended learning experience” involving face-to-face teaching. Yet upon arrival, thousands of us have been locked into our overpriced student accomodations receiving solely online education, as a result of mounting Covid-19 outbreaks stemming from the university’s greedy landlordism. The stakes are high and the situation critical – a rent strike is the way forward!
The strike will only happen if we reach a critical mass of people, so you do not risk anything signing up at an early stage.
We rent strikers pledge to withhold rent until the following demands are met:
Cut the Rent
Cut Unfair Fees
Protect Students
Protect the Workers
End the Blame
(more information on what this looks like on fb page pinned post @oxcuttherent)
We are calling on everyone in student accommodation to join our strike. We need to act together in our shared interests so that our collective power becomes an organised force for the university to fear.
If our country won’t introduce proper rental protections;
If our university won’t support us through the pandemic;
We will drop the rent ourselves.
Oxford, Cut The Rent!
