Finite Element Analysis Usage
Thank you for taking time out of your day to fill this survey.

I have been working with FEA for over 10 years now, and I have been thinking about my journey through it and all the things I have learned. I thought the best way for me to do that is by writing some articles and for that reason I am trying to gather some data. Your input will be greatly appreciated and I hope this will not take more than 5 minutes of your time.

If you would like to discuss more about what I am trying to accomplish then please feel free to email me at czinzu22@gmail.com

NOTE: This survey will be anonymous, however, if you would like to submit your e-mail you can do so in the last question (OPTIONAL)

What industry do you represent and perform analysis for? *
Required
How many years of experience of performing Finite Element Analysis? *
Please enter a number (integer preferred)
What type of analysis do you typically perform? *
Multiple answers can be selected

What is the purpose of your FEA? *

Required
What is your software of choice? *
If you use an in-house code please type “in-house”
What is your level of understanding of the FEA software you use? *
What your choices of control parameters, friction model, viscosity parameters will result in? What is happening under the hood? Etc...
Low
High
Do you check your input file in detail before sending the model to run? *
For things that the in-built checker cannot recognize. Eg. If your units are consistent, mass and CG, your control parameters, contact parameters etc.
Not at all
Always
How many iterations does it take you before you have your final input file? *
Not considering changes in geometry, materials or loads. Only changes in model setup such as mesh density, connections, contacts, control parameters or boundary conditions.
What unit system do you use for most of your FE models? *
What system do you most often use to run your analysis? *
On average, how long do your models take to run to completion? *
Please pick the computing resource you mostly use corresponding to your average time.
What is the size of your models (OPTIONAL)
If you think your answers for the two questions above need some context, please explain here. You can skip this question otherwise.
What is your preferred method of documenting your FEA? *
Both input file and post-processed results. Example. Word, PowerPoint, Excel... etc.
Do you think the documentation of your FE Model is cumbersome? *
Not at all
Yes very much
Do you think FEA results in too much data to process? *
Not at all
Yes very much
On average, how many hours do you spend documenting your FEM input file and model setup? (Please enter a number) *
Please enter a number (integer preferred)
On average, how many hours do you spend post-processing your analysis results? (Please enter a number) *
Post-processing implies extraction of data from your FEA analysis in a usable/ readable format. It should not include things like preparing a presentation for your clients with the analysis results.
In your opinion, how important is analyst experience in preparing good FEA? *
Low
High
Would you feel more comfortable if your FEM was checked by an experienced analyst before running it? *
Not at all
Yes very much
Do you think having your model checked by an experienced analyst before running it would help save time? *
Not likely
Most likely
What is the key thing holding you back from using more FEA for your analysis? *
You can also talk about what you think are the current bottle necks or draw backs of FEA
