is a new musical that tells the little-known story of David's journey from black sheep to anointed shepherd of Israel. With moving original songs and unforgettable characters, the show explores courage, faith, and the struggle to become who you’re meant to be. We’re looking for passionate performers excited to help bring this powerful story to life.
*AUDITIONS*
Auditions (for women aged 16 and up) will take place over the course of these evenings:
- Thursday, July 3 - passed
- Tuesday, July 8 - passed
For your audition, please prepare:
- One minute of a song of your choice.
Note: You must bring either a playback track to sing along with, or sheet music for our accompanist, Ellen, to play for you as you sing. - A one-minute monologue of your choice to showcase your acting skills.
--Note 1: The show features a wide range of characters—dramatic, comedic, youthful, wise, feminine, masculine, calm, fiery, and more. If there is a particular “type” you hope to be considered for, choose a monologue that highlights those qualities.
--Note 2: You’re welcome to find a monologue online—or get creative and ask ChatGPT to write one for you! You can even request a monologue tailored to a specific character from the story of David that you’re interested in portraying. For example, you could type: “Write a one-minute dramatic monologue for Michal, daughter of Saul, as she helps David escape from her father’s guards.”
*CASTING*
David the Servant King includes a variety of roles—characters who require both singing and acting, characters who require only acting, and ensemble roles that involve both group singing and acting. There will also be basic movement throughout the show.
Other things to keep in mind regarding casting:
- Some individuals may be invited back for a second audition (a "callback"), on Thursday, July 10.
- Casting decisions may take a few weeks to announce, as we assemble the cast to best serve the story.
- We’re excited to see the talent in our community, but please note that auditioning does not guarantee a role, as space in the cast is limited.
*REHEARSALS*
To help cover production costs, a participation fee of 350 NIS is required of each cast member.
Rehearsals begin in September and will take place twice a week—on Sundays and Thursdays from 7:00–10:30 PM—in Efrat/Gush Etzion (exact location TBA).
In January, our final month of rehearsals, we plan to add an additional weekly rehearsal: Wednesdays. As we get closer, we’ll assess whether we’ll need all three nights each week or just two—this will depend on how the show is shaping up and what the cast needs.
In the early stages, you might not be called to every rehearsal. However, it’s important that the above weekdays and times work for you and that you’re able to fully commit to them. (A detailed rehearsal schedule will be shared with a certain amount of advance notice.) If this isn’t the right fit for you at this time, we’d be delighted to see you in the audience!
Other things to keep in mind regarding rehearsals:
- You’ll need access to a printer. Sheet music and the script will be sent as PDFs and must be printed for rehearsals.
- Even if you don’t officially read music, having the sheet music in front of you still help you in learning your vocal part. In addition, you’ll receive audio recordings of your vocal parts to assist with practice between rehearsals.
*PERFORMANCES*
- Performances are scheduled, please G-d, for February 2026. We are hoping to perform in Jerusalem, and possibly in other theaters in the area as well.
- Performance dates may not fall on regular rehearsal nights—we will share the exact dates as soon as we get them so you can make any necessary arrangements.
- There will be tech rehearsals at the theater.
- The audience will be female only.
- The tech crew will likely be male.
- On performance days, you will likely be required to arrive early in the day to run through the full show beforehand. For example, on the day of Opening Night. Exact arrival times TBD.
