People's Life Fund Application - 2024

The People's Life Fund looks forward to redirecting resisted war taxes to projects based in Northern California in our 2024 granting cycle. We offer grants to groups that are providing essential day-to-day human services which the government is not adequately furnishing, and/or addressing the root causes of a problem by engaging in education or action, in the spirit of nonviolence, aimed at social, economic or political change. Thank you for your interest in applying!

The PLF’s money comes from conscientious war tax resisters in Northern California who deposit or donate all or part of the amount they would otherwise pay to the federal government in income taxes. Please see www.nowartax.org for more information.

The deadline for the 2024 granting cycle is 5 pm, Friday, February 23, 2024.
The maximum grant award is $5,000.

Please check to make sure you meet the following funding guidelines before you apply.

     • You are providing essential day-to-day human services which the government is not adequately furnishing, and/or addressing the root causes of a problem by engaging in education or action, in the spirit of nonviolence, aimed at social, economic or political change.

• Your work is based in Northern California.

     • Your annual organizational budget is under $200,000.

     • Your organization has not received a PLF grant in the last year.

     • If funded, at least one representative of your organization will participate in a public granting ceremony in April.

     • If funded, you agree to list the PLF among your funders as: "Resisted War Taxes Redirected by People’s Life Fund."

Preference will be given to groups that challenge privilege and injustice and are led by the same constituencies that are being served. We are giving special priority to groups that are working in the areas of Youth, Economic and Racial Justice, Environmental Sustainability, Resisting US involvement in wars of aggression, and/or addressing the Housing Crisis.

Please answer each question as briefly as possible. Note that you will have room to offer more details in the Narrative section.  To maintain the opportunity to edit your answers, save your application URL and finish editing before the deadline.  Feel free to contact us if you have questions about your eligibility at nowartax@riseup.net.

If creating a budget is new to you and could use some help, we will do our best to provide technical support. Please email us your budget question or a link to your draft budget by 2/16 (a week before the Feb 23 deadline.) Send to nowartax@riseup.net.
