NMD United, Inc. is actively recruiting individuals with neuromuscular disabilities to fill vacancies on our Board of Directors. MISSION
NMD United is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization composed of adults living with neuromuscular disabilities (NMD). Our mission is to foster meaningful interactions and provide informational resources to increase self-direction while promoting independence.
ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified individuals are those who: live with a diagnosed neuromuscular disability; attained age 21+; have an active knowledge of community needs and interests; promote the social model of disability and independent living; and have relevant professional, volunteer or other board experience.
BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
The Board is directly responsible for daily management of the organization. It is the duties of Directors to carry out the aims and purposes of the organization, and to manage and control all of its property and assets.
Each Director shall hold office for a term of two (2) years. Directors are permitted to serve an unlimited number of terms. All terms begin on January 1 and end on December 31 of the second year in office. (Please note: If you apply after January 1, your first term may begin retroactively.)
The Board of Directors meets a minimum of six (6) regular Board meetings each calendar year, typically held on the third Wednesday of every other month starting at 7:00 p.m. EST. Special Meetings may be called with notice.
It is required that Directors: attend Board meetings; commit time outside of meetings to actively participate in the growth of organizational programs; review the agenda, minutes and accompanying documents before each meeting; participate in discussion and decision making at each meeting; and abide by all organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
