The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of visual storytelling and a knack for humor, translating ideas into engaging and funny sequences that resonate with audiences of all ages.

Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling storyboards for animated comedy short format animation, focusing on visual gags, physical comedy, and expressive character actions without reliance on dialogue.
  • Collaborate with the animation director and other artists to develop story concepts and ensure alignment with the overall comedic vision.
  • Translate concepts into clear and dynamic visual sequences, effectively conveying timing, pacing, and emotional beats.
  • Incorporate feedback from the creative team to refine storyboards, ensuring clarity and impact of comedic moments.
  • Work within project timelines to deliver storyboards on schedule, maintaining high quality and consistency throughout the animation process.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas for visual gags and comedic scenarios.
  • Understand and apply principles of comedic timing, movement, and visual storytelling to enhance the effectiveness of each gag and scene.

Requirements:

  • 1+ year of experience as a storyboard artist, preferably in animation or related fields, with a focus on comedy and gag-driven content. (Junior artists totally fine for this role!)
  • Great imagination with the ability to go from premise/story setup to final boards for a short gag-driven format.
  • Ability to convey character expressions, actions, and comedic timing through visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in digital storyboard software (e.g., Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, Photoshop, Blender, or similar tools).
  • A solid understanding of the principles of animation, pacing, and visual storytelling, especially in the context of comedy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a creative team.
  • A portfolio showing storyboarding work, particularly with a focus on humor, visual gags, and character-driven storytelling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on comedy animation, especially no-dialogue formats or shorts.
  • Knowledge of animation production processes and workflows.
  • A good sense of humor and an understanding of what makes visual comedy effective and engaging.
  • Self-driven with a history of working on smaller animation teams.
