Women Leaders in Global Digital Health Workshop Application

Background

The Global Digital Health Network envisions a world where technical innovation supports improved health and contributes to better quality, accessibility and sustainability of health services and health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations in low resource environments. Formerly known as the mHealth Working Group, the Network was established in 2009 by global health organizations for global health organizations and has now grown to be a 3900+ person-strong networking forum with members from 117 countries to share information, engage with the broader community, and provide leadership in digital health for global public health. Our events and communications are a venue to share practical and flexible guidance with each other and the community. We also seek to engage with and learn from digital implementers in non-health sectors, so that we may strengthen our respective digital technologies.

As we seek to drive digital transformation of the global health sector, we need strong leadership to address issues of equity and gender bias. Policy research has shown that compared to male counterparts, women in leadership are more likely to respond to community concerns, prioritize the needs of women and other marginalized groups, and increase research on women’s health. At the leadership level, women must have representation in governing bodies, strategy development, implementation, and evaluation of digital health initiatives to ensure that women’s needs and experiences inform and shape investment and implementation decisions that can support equitable digital health transformation.

Workshop

The purpose of this 1-day workshop is to convene up to 30 female leaders working in global digital health to build community while at the same time, providing opportunities for leadership development and networking. Over the course of the day, members will engage with questions that will help build their capacity to express their leadership vision with clarity and authenticity, approach challenges with new perspectives, network with peers, and commit to their own leadership and that of the wider community.

Location

The workshop will be held at the Abt Associate offices in Washington, DC (North Rockville, MD) on Sunday, December 3rd from 10AM-5PM EST. You must be available to attend the entire workshop in-person to participate. There is no virtual component or offering at this time.

The cost of the workshop will be $35 for non-LMIC participants and free for LMIC participants (this is to cover the cost of lunch)
