Camp will be all day (10am-5pm-ish, final schedule released soon!) Monday July 17th-Friday July 21st, with a showcase on Saturday, July 22nd in the early evening. Camp will be held at Open School East, at 16570 SE Oak St., Portland 97233.
Queer Rock Camp (QRC) Portland is an annual summer camp that seeks to engage Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Two Spirit,+ (LGBTQIA2S+) identified youth through performance and musical self-expression, participatory relationships between adult and youth LGBTQIA2S+-identified musicians, and join youth of diverse backgrounds in peer alliance and community-building skills.
During these days, QRC Portland will provide musical & performance education such as songwriting skills, instrument instruction, and queer music history; skill-building workshops such as self-defense and anti-oppression discussions; and arts classes such as screening printing and zine making. Camp will be facilitated by LGBTQIA2S+-identified artists and musicians of all ages. Additionally, each day during lunch, a different musical group will perform, featuring a diverse array of local musicians.
Collaboration is emphasized at camp, with campers forming bands at the beginning of the week. **The week will culminate in a public showcase featuring camp bands who will perform at a local venue at the end of the camp.**
