Volunteers of R.U.M. are about to give Mother Nature a hand to replant mangroves in abandoned aquaculture ponds at Pulau Ubin. By adjusting the depth of the ponds, mangroves of all kinds will naturally grow where there used to be a big deep hole!
To design the restoration, volunteers of R.U.M. would like to ask what YOU would like to see and do in mangroves at Ubin. So that the restored mangroves will be meaningful to you, your family and friends.
R.U.M. is a community volunteer effort involving scientists, NGOs and Ubin villagers, with the support of the National Parks Board, within the framework of the “Friends of Ubin Network (FUN)” initiated by Minister Desmond Lee.
It is important to R.U.M. that the community have a say in mangrove restoration. Our hope is to restore Ubin mangroves not just ecologically and biologically, but also socially and culturally.
