LU is organizing a series of working groups, journal clubs, and/or internships over the summer!
These are short-term, collaborative opportunities that will not only strengthen your own program for the upcoming year, but also benefit all Splash programs across the network. Below are descriptions of each group, including goals and the estimated time commitments:
Student Recruitment Working Group: Help expand and strengthen your chapter’s student outreach! We will work on updating and expanding your student outreach contact list, with a focus on schools and organizations near your home Splash that serve students currently underrepresented in Splash programs (e.g., low-income students). You will walk away with a solid list to use for your upcoming Splash programs. Guidance and tips will be provided from LU staff.
Commitments: We will meet virtually as a group in 1-2 hour increments, for an estimated total of 3-5 hours in May--July.
Teacher Training Working Group: Join us to develop concrete, low-burden strategies to support your chapter’s teachers in creating great classes—without adding extra work for your admins. You’ll receive guidance, tips, and resources from LU staff, and collaborate with peers to create scalable solutions for teacher support.
Commitments: We will meet virtually as a group in 1-2 hour increments, for an estimated total of 3-5 hours in May--July.
Web Team Internship: Join the LU web team that supports Splash chapters across the country! As a web intern, you’ll collaborate on improving the design and user experience of Splash websites. This is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills to a meaningful project that directly supports students and volunteers nationwide.
Commitments: ~4 hours/week of asynchronous work, plus attendance at one weekly meeting (Tuesday or Thursday evening) in May–August.
Preferred experience: Some background in coding (e.g., Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and/or UI/UX design.
Conversations in Education Journal Club: Join a safe, thoughtful space to read, reflect, and talk about what’s happening in the broader educational landscape. Each month, we’ll read one short article or excerpt on a topic of shared interest—ranging from higher ed policy to access, equity, student experience, AI, and beyond—and come together to openly discuss how it connects to Splash and our current and future impact.
Commitments: One virtual session per month in June–Sep, ~1 short reading beforehand.
My Splash Experience JournalING Club: Want to make the most of your Splash experience—and be able to talk about it later on a resume, personal statement, or interview? We will reflect and write simple, low-pressure prompts to help you reflect on what you did, what you learned, and what you gained from being part of Splash. By the end, you’ll have a ready-to-use write-up or talking points you can use anywhere. Select reflections can be featured in LU’s newsletter to celebrate the impact of Splash volunteers across the network.
Commitments: One 1 hour virtual session per month in July-Sep, plus optional reflection prompts in between.
