Y Camp Leadership Development Program 2021
Thank you for your interest in our Leadership Development Programs (LDP). There are a number of options based on age and previous experience in the program. Below is a brief synopsis of each program, but by no means does it entail everything that a participant will be doing as LDP Participant.
Volunteer In Progress- VIP
Ages 14- 17 $75/week- 2 week commitment (does not need to be consecutive weeks)
** 5 week maximum **
Available weeks: 2 - 10
WEEKS 5 AND 6 ARE FULL. APPLICANTS MAY BE ADDED TO THE WAITLIST.
As a VIP, campers take the first step in becoming a Y Camp Leader. This two-week program teaches campers about service to others. Your primary function will be working in Cownie Dining Hall; doing dishes and cleaning the dining hall will fill much of the day. As time allows VIP's may help with the maintenance department as well.
Leader Assistant- LA
Ages 15-17 $280/week- 2 week commitment (does not need to be consecutive weeks)
Available weeks 2- 9
WEEK 6 IS FULL. APPLICANTS MAY BE ADDED TO THE WAITLIST.
LA is a step between VIP and CIT. An LA will have specific times during the day set aside for leadership training, and to participate in “Tracks” to receive training in specific camp areas (i.e. archery, ranch, climbing tower, building and grounds, and nature). LA’s will choose their Track for the week during which they practice fundamentals of programming specific areas. This is great for campers wanting to learn more about becoming a staff but not eligible for the CIT Program.
Counselor in Training- CIT
Ages 16 – 17 $700 for the 3 week program
Session 1 weeks 2 - 4 (June 20-July 10, 2020)
Session 2 weeks 5 - 7 (July 12- 31, 2020 )
*IMPORTANT NOTE* To be eligible to apply to Y Camp Staff for Summer 2022 following graduation from this program, you MUST be 17 years old as of the first day of camp on June 19th, 2022, to be considered for hire.
CIT- a three-week training is an extensive program aimed at teaching teens how to become exceptional Y Camp Leaders. Skill development in leadership, safety, relationship building, character development and program facilitation are all part of their experience. Through observation, discussion and hands-on experience, CIT's expand their knowledge of great Y Camp leadership. As part of the program, CIT's take a Lifeguard course that, upon successful completion, will deem them certified lifeguards. If you want to become a Y Camp Leader or work with children, this program is for you.
