* Vancouver Pride Society's commitment to BIPOC*
The Vancouver Pride Society is an events focused organization that works year round to create events for LGBTQAI2+ communities on unceded Coast Salish territories in Vancouver. Our board and staff team are committed to creating organizational changes to decrease barriers for participants of our events, specifically focusing our efforts on Black people, Indigenous people, and people of colour (BIPOC).
* How we plan to collaborate on the creation of BIPOC events*
Since doing extensive community consultation in 2016/2017, we are hoping to continue facilitating community driven dialogue about what kind of spaces, events, and support QTBIPOC would like to see and participate in during Pride.
We acknowledge that Pride has historically not had BIPOC-centered events, and we are dedicating time, resources and energy to changing this. As of this year, VPS has a permanent QPOC staff member dedicated to collaborating with BIPOC communities and individuals in order to create spaces and events that fit BIPOC needs.
Over the next several months, we are holding in-person community consultations, meeting with organizations in the city, and actively asking for feedback from individuals through phone and in-person conversations, surveys, social-media and email. Please fill out the following information and we will connect with you about upcoming opportunities.
* We're listening if you want to share *
We want to hear from you about what we are doing well and what we need to improve upon, or radically change. If you face barriers when choosing to attend VPS events, we would like to hear what those barriers may be, and how you would like VPS to decrease those barriers to better support BIPOC.
For any questions or concerns you are welcome to e-mail Serene Carter, our QPOC staff member who is leading the consultation at firstname.lastname@example.org
