The QueerPeers program aims to connect LGBTQQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual) students who are new to UCD and/or the UCD queer community with other LGBTQIA+ Aggies. The goal is to create an inclusive community where we can share experiences and provide mutual personal and social support in navigating the university, taking into account that our many identities (e.g. race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, immigration status, religious background, etc.) shape our unique queer experiences.
Participants in the QueerPeers program will be grouped into mixed pods of 3-5 new and returning aggies (Note: We intentionally veer away from the usual 1:1 mentor-mentee pairings to affirm that we all have experiences of value to share and that we can still be in the learning process of navigating UCD regardless of how long we’ve been here.)
QueerPeers programming includes super fun movie nights, community dialogues, hot cocoa study sessions, and much more!
TL; DR/In Summary
QueerPeers is meant to be a mutual support network for new and returning UCD students in the LGBTQQIA+ community.
Graduate scholars are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
[A Note on Confidentiality:]
Out of respect for those who may not be out/open about their identities for different reasons, we want to stress confidentiality when joining this program. Participants’ involvement with QueerPeers will not be disclosed to anyone outside the program, unless participants wish otherwise.
