*IAA and its member properties perform background checks prior to accepting applicants to its Service Technician Program. The goal of the program is to place program participants in paid apprenticeship programs that lead to full-time employment in the multifamily housing industry.

Applicants for employment in our industry are subject to passing background checks prior to offers of employment. In order to streamline the process for you and your potential future employer, the Indiana Apartment Association (“IAA”) is requesting consent to run a criminal background check with a third-party employee screening vendor, which will be shared with prospective employers along with your application for employment. IAA is performing a very basic level background check verifying your social security number and your criminal history. Some potential employers may request additional information later in the process to perform their own screenings or a more extensive screenings, involving driving records and prior employment verification.

Please note that a criminal record will not necessarily disqualify you from consideration for employment or participation in this training program. The effect of any conviction, plea, or pending charges will be assessed, unless otherwise provided by law, with respect to time, circumstances, seriousness of the offense, and job responsibilities and duties.

However, your misrepresentation or failure to disclose a conviction, pleas, or pending charge (except convictions, pleas, or pending charges protected from disclosure by state or local law) will be considered a falsification of your application and potentially disqualify you from consideration for employment or will result in termination of employment if subsequently discovered. Any criminal record discovered after employment has commenced may result in re-evaluation of employment status as permitted by law.
