ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN CPW AND AAUP FOR A PRESENTATION OF THE SURPRISING RESULTS OF THE PROFESSIONAL REPORT ON COLUMBIA'S FINANCES.
Presentation by Dr. Howard Bunsis, institutional finance expert and Professor of Accounting at Eastern Michigan University, of the available financial data for Columbia and the report he conducted.
Last year, the Columbia Postdoctoral Workers (CPW) and the Columbia chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) hired a professional to analyze Columbia's finances to get the truth about its budget.
Some of our findings:
• Columbia University is in excellent financial condition. This conclusion is based on solid reserves and cash flows and is externally supported by the highest possible Aaa bond rating.
• Any claims of budget “holes” or “deficits” or needs for budget cuts are not supported, as there are significant totally discretionary reserves and annual excess cash flows that are the result of Columbia taking in more cash than it spends.
• The recent increase in enrollment has been met by the hiring of more administrators, but the faculty hiring has favored non-tenure hiring over tenure hiring.
Please attend to learn and discuss more.
