2026 Volunteer Opportunity

Evansville was certified as a Bee City USA in 2025.  

Bee City USA's mission: to galvanize communities to sustain pollinators by providing them with healthy habitat, rich in a variety of native plants and free of insecticides. While bees are the most important pollinator, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, wasps, bats, and hummingbirds also contribute to pollination.

The Bee City Evansville Committee includes representation from the Evansville Climate Collaborative, Evansville Parks & Recreation, City of Evansville Engineer's office, Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden, Keep Evansville Beautiful, Wesselman Woods, University of Southern Indiana, SW IN Chapter - Indiana Native Plant Society, and SW IN Master Gardeners Association.  

You are invited to participate in a volunteer opportunity to increase native wildlife habitat and safeguard water quality.  The group will plant native plants in 3 existing storm water management swales around the pickleball courts at Wesselman Park to enhance the infiltration of rainwater while also creating pollinator habitat. Volunteers will plug plants into holes drilled a day ahead of time.

Saturday Sept. 26, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Planting plants

COST: Free to participate
