The Melbourne Ducks are gathering the flock for the Australian Women's Ice Hockey League 2026/27 season!

Invite only try outs will take place at iceHQ:
Off ice testing will take place in the hour preceding or following the times listed

6:25pm-7:25pm Thursday 6th August (EOI Invite) 
4pm-5pm Saturday 8th August (EOI Invite)
4pm-5pm Saturday 15th August (Invite from first two try outs)

Off ice testing times will be confirmed in email invites.

The AWIHL season generally runs from November through to March with a short break over the Christmas period.

Eligibility:
Players born in 2011 are eligible to play from the beginning of the season. Players born in 2012 may begin playing after January 1st. Development squad players will be considered from age 12, based on skill.

This is the highest level of Women's Ice Hockey in Australia, we would advise potential new players to watch last season's streamed games for a guide to the expected skill level.

The final Melbourne Ducks squad will consist of around 15-20 players and 2-3 goalies who are all on the 'active roster' - competing for roster spots each week. This includes a maximum of four import players plus one NZ player as a local, as per AWIHL regulations. In addition, there will also be numerous training players and goalies selected to be in the development squad. The development squad positions are typically reserved for younger players who have been playing for 2-3 years and are 12-24 months away from challenging for a roster spot. They are not intended for players who are new to the sport and currently completing development programs.

Imports and International players are encouraged to sign up, we will be in contact via email for a potential interviews. (An import is a player who does not have Australian citizenship or permanent residency.)
Pending selection, Melbourne Ducks are able to assist import players with international return flights to Melbourne, and provide accomodation during the season.
