We are inviting IPY Planning Group members to submit proposal for Task Groups to be created as part of the IPY-5 planning process.
An IPY Task Group must be:
- Ad hoc, created for a defined purpose with a specific intended outcome (e.g. strategic document)
Planned to operate on a short-term basis only (up to 1 - 1.5 years)
Intended to develop strategy to advance the IPY planning process (e.g. guidelines / strategic documents for longer-term planning process)
Comprised of members from more than one country and more than one IPY partner organization, and should ideally include members from more than one world region, with a recommended total of 10-15 members
Self-organizing, including meeting coordination and project management (the Interim IPY Secretariat will only provide basic support for setting up a TG, and funding is not available for TGs)
Open to input from all member organizations of the IPY Planning Group, including nominations for TG members, with decisions to be made by the TG Chair in consultation with the IPY Executive Committee
Reviewed annually by the IPY ExCom to ensure compliance with these criteria and with the IPY Code of Conduct (forthcoming).
Task Groups are not intended to be long-term committees. Alternative structures and opportunities will be available for longer-term initiatives.
