General:
Safety is always our top priority. During camp, all participants and coaches will wear Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), and campers will be instructed on how to move equipment safely and take care of their bodies during physical activities. Coaches will drive motorized safety boats, called launches, that are equipped with safety supplies such as additional flotation devices, safety blankets, and first aid kits. The strain of the physical activity will be easy to moderate, and each participant will be coached at the level appropriate for them. We know that learning new things can be scary, and we're here to help and make sure it's fun for everyone.
Weather:
Summer can be a tricky time in Seattle, especially as smoky conditions become more common. Wind and boat traffic can also be unpredictable, and impact our ability to get out on the water. Please be advised that we may need to cancel, postpone, or alter the Camp Lucy session if weather conditions disrupt our ability to transport athletes safely to camp, run a safe camp session, or provide a positive experience. In the event that we do cancel, we will give as much notice as we are able.
COVID:
As an organization, we monitor the risks of COVID transmission in our programs. We understand that COVID remains a risk to our community and that our Camp Lucy participants fall into an age category that has had limited access to vaccines. We are not currently requiring vaccination or masks to be worn during Camp. We support athletes and families who elect to wear masks while at our partner boathouses and encourage all families to make the best decision for their camper.
We WILL require all masks to be removed during the water-portions of our programming, as having material over the mouth and nose is a hazard in the event of an emergency. It has been determined that the risk of transmission is low while rowing.
We reserve the right to change these policies at any point prior to or during camp. All decisions regarding COVID prevention or mitigation practices will be communicated promptly to Camp Lucy participant families.
