Application for the 2019 Member Political Organizer Program
SEIU Local 668 is seeking members who are willing to take a leave of absence for 13 weeks from their employment to work full-time for the SEIU State Council, beginning Tuesday, September 3.

Interested members must work under a contract that allows leaves of this length, willing to work a 40-hour workweek (rather than 37.5 hours), and be willing to work a weekday schedule shift from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. There may be some opportunities for weekend work, which will be compensated as overtime, but these have not been confirmed as of yet.

SEIU Pennsylvania State Council will pay your lost wages, an $80 maximum cellphone reimbursement, mileage reimbursement at the 2019 IRS rate, and your healthcare.

For those applicants currently covered by the Civil Service Act, the Governor’s Executive Order 1980-18, and/or the Hatch Act, if you are accepted as a 2019 MPO, those restrictions on your political activity will not apply while you are temporarily separated from your public employment. Additionally, participating in this program may or may not have an impact on your eligibility for FMLA. Speak with your Human Resources department for more information.

The application deadline is Friday, July 26. Please apply here for consideration.
About the Work
The primary function of this position will be to talk with voters about their concerns heading into the 2020 election. MPOs will also have opportunities to engage with SEIU members about our union’s political work, lead events and educate and mobilize members.

The Member Political Organizer (MPO) position has long been the foundation of SEIU’s electoral campaigns. The program provides an opportunity for SEIU members to develop leadership and organizing skills that will be valuable beyond the campaign. MPOs will be part of a team with SEIU members and staff from all of our major PA locals.

Primary Responsibilities:
-Deliver SEIU’s message to voters while door-to-door canvassing on a daily basis
-Record and report data collected while canvassing
-Participate in team meetings, debriefs and training sessions
-Engage with fellow SEIU members about the election and other important issues
-Create and lead public events and volunteer canvasses; educate and mobilize SEIU members

Please note, after a careful review of each candidate's application, which may include a phone and / or in-person interview, applicants will be chosen in conjunction both by SEIU Local 668's Statewide Officers and SEIU Pennsylvania State Council staff.
Requirements
-Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle. You will have to travel a lot regionally.
-Mileage will be reimbursed at the IRS rate.
-Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) Google Docs, Google Sheets and other online programs.
-A smartphone is not required but it will be extremely useful if you have one.
